OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

A LONG TERM COMMITMENT

We are committed to sourcing all our tea in a sustainable way. As a company with over a hundred years of tea experience, we know the importance of sustainability.

It’s a philosophy of respect, one that takes the long view of time so that tea can continue to be grown and harvested for the enjoyment of generations to come. At the same time, as the largest tea brand in the world, we realise that complete social, environmental and economical sustainability cannot be achieved overnight. Given the scope of this ambition we have to take a step-by-step approach.

As the first step of our journey, Lipton Quality Black and Lipton Yellow Label tea in 2009 will introduce the Rainforest Alliance seal on packs, as already 50% of the tea comes from certified plantations. Lipton Quality Black tea is a blend, meaning that our blend can come from numerous plantations. Some of these plantations have already been certified and some still have to be inspected, which of course takes time. Globally (including here in Australia) we intend to source all Lipton tea bags from sustainable sources by 2015.

We intend to extend Rainforest Alliance certification to all Lipton tea bags globally by 2015.
